About Us

The motto at Chehalem Valley Presbyterian is Filled by Christ, Poured Out for Others. Our logo is the image of a cup being simultaneously filled and emptied. We think this is a great illustration of who we are and who we want to be.

Filled by Christ…

There are countless things to fill ourselves with, but Christ is the only one who fills our emptiness with true life. His life, death, and resurrection are fundamental for a life of fellowship with God. Our worship services revolve around receiving him in Word and Sacrament; our ministries embody a shared life together in Christ with his grace at work among us. We want all people to see him as beautiful and believable and grow in knowing him, no matter if they are sinners, saints, sufferers, or skeptics.

…Poured Out for Others.

A cup can only pour out what has first filled it. Being filled by Christ, we also give him to others as we ourselves are emptied. We extend his forgiveness as we ourselves know his extravagant grace. We pour out his mercy and care for those in need because Christ has poured himself out for us in our desperation. We invite others to share our cup of fellowship with him. This is what it means to love our neighbors: to be poured out for the sake of those around us in Christ’s name.

Why a Cup?

The cup has a particular significance in our regular church life. We gather weekly around Jesus’ Table at worship and drink from his cup to receive the promises of his gospel. As we all drink from him together, we’re formed by him and bound together in our unity.

It’s also an appropriate visual for our local expression of Christ’s church. We live in the Chehalem Valley, a place full of vines and vineyards. As Jesus fills us with his life and love, he pours us into this local community so that others may also come to know and be filled by him.
